CHILLICOTHE — Two of the area’s best bowling programs have remained a step above their competition this season.
Unioto and Hillsboro will be traveling to a familiar venue on Feb. 28 and 29 … Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Why?
Of course, for the 2020 OHSAA Boys State Bowling Tournaments. The Shermans and Indians punched their tickets to the event this past Saturday after beating out two other competitors in the district tournament.
Hillsboro won a Division II district title with a team score of 4009 — rolling a 2887 in regulation and a baker total of 1122. As for Unioto, the Shermans finished second in the district with a total of 3740, posting a 2725 in regulation and a baker total of 1015.
Leading the Indians was Zach Ison, who rolled a 642 series, while Tyler Snapp added a 629 to the mix.
Unioto’s Ty Schobelock won his own district title by rolling a three-game total of 668, beating out Ison, who was his closest competitor. Assisting Schobelock for the Shermans was Jonathon Kelly with a 560 and Caleb Smith, who posted a 529.
Zane Trace came in third with a 3477 while Gallia Academy had a 3362.
On the girls side, Washington’s girls punched their own ticket to state. The Blue Lions posted a team total of 3391 to do so and were led by Lindsey Buckner and Maitlyn Cave with series scores of 519 and 504, respectively.
As mentioned, the OHSAA Boys and Girls State Bowling Tournaments will take place on Feb. 28 and 29 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
