Division III District Semifinal: Wheelersburg 2, Fairfield 2 (2-0 PK)
The Pirates, in the most dramatic of ways, advanced into a Division III district final with a win over Fairfield (11-6) in penalty kicks.
The two programs were tied 1-1 at halftime and 2-2 after regulation. But after two 15-minute overtime periods weren’t enough to decide a winner, the Pirates took advantage of a golden opportunity with PKs.
Ellie Kallner and Kylan Darnell scored the Pirates’ two penalty kicks while goalkeeper Brynley Preston made three game-saving saves.
Wheelersburg (14-3-1) will now face Eastern Brown at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Waverly’s Raidiger Field.

Division III District Semifinal: North Adams 4, Ironton St. Joe 1
The Green Devils (12-6) handled their business on Tuesday in a district semifinal match, beating a stout Ironton St. Joe team by a 4-1 final.
The Flyers (12-4-1) couldn’t handle North Adams’ offensive attack as the Green Devils continued to place pressure on ISJ’s defense.
Next up for North Adams is a date with Lynchburg-Clay in a Division III district championship match at 11 am., Saturday at Waverly’s Raidiger Field.
Division III District Semifinal: Lynchburg-Clay 8, Minford 0
In a Division III district semifinal matchup, Lynchburg-Clay had little trouble with Minford (7-6-3) on its home grass.
As they have all season long, the Mustangs (14-4) barraged the opposing goalkeeper while overwhelming their opponent’s back line with speed and strength.
Lynchburg-Clay will now look for yet another district crown when it meets with North Adams at 11 a.m., Saturday at Waverly’s Raidiger Field.
