Five area players earn first-team All-Ohio honors, multiple others grace list

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association released its Division IV, V, VI and VII All-Ohio boys basketball teams Wednesday afternoon and a handful of names within SOSA’s coverage area graced the list.

In Division IV, Meigs’ Carson Davis, who was the Division IV District Player of the Year, was named first-team All-Ohio after leading the Maraduers to a 22-2 season, a Gold Ball and district final appearance by averaging 18.9 points and more than 10 rebounds per night. 

Vinton County’s Cobra Sharp was tabbed with second-team honors. He averaged 22.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and four assists per night for the 12-win Vikings. 

Highlighting the special mention list is Jackson’s Bodhi Wolford, Logan Elm’s Ne’Miah Waugh, Unioto’s Blake Fitch, Gallia Academy’s Cade Mock and Meigs’ Reed Brinager. 

Earning honorable mention honors is Circleville’s Kole Nungester and Riley Jenkins, Westfall’s Joe Wray, Unioto’s Blake Hoops, Jackson’s Stephen Jenkins, Hillsboro’s Tate Davis and Fairfield Union’s Keegan Arnett

In Division V, Minford’s duo of Myles Montgomery and Bennett Kayser, who were named the Division V co-District Players of the Year, headline the first-team All-Ohio list.

Montgomery became Minford’s all-time leading scorer in school history, lifting the Falcons to a state semifinal appearance by averaging 24.3 points and five assists per night. Kayser also averaged 24.3 points alongside nearly 10 rebounds per night as a driving force behind the team’s district and regional titles. 

Fairland’s Brody Buchanan and Ironton’s Braden Schreck made the second-team list. 

Buchanan was the engine behind the Dragons’ 21-win and Gold Ball season, pouring on 20.2 points and 4.2 assists per night. Schreck went from dominating on the gridiron to the hardwood, notching 21 points, five rebounds and five assists per night for the Tigers. 

Chesapeake’s Maddox Kazee earned third-team honors, leading the Panthers to a district championship and a regional final appearance with 18.5 points per night. 

The area’s special mention honorees are highlighted by Zane Trace’s Gunnar McCullough, Coal Grove’s Owen Johnson, South Point’s Brayden Hanshaw, Eastern Brown’s Grady Barber and Wheelersburg’s Braylon Rucker

On the honorable mention list is River Valley’s Braden Bennett, Oak Hill’s Colben Beucler, Wellston’s Wes Briggs, Piketon’s Bo Henry, Fairland’s Cliff Fransen, Ironton’s Ashton Layne, Chesapeake’s Kaden Perkins, Nelsonville-York’s Alec Thompson and Northwest’s Brenden Vice

In Division VI, North Adams’ Breestin Schweickart, who was the Division VI District Player of the Year, has been named first-team All-Ohio after leading his Green Devils to 20 wins, a Gold Ball and third-straight district title with 18.7 points per game. 

Symmes Valley’s Ethan Smith earned second-team honors, leading the Vikings to 15 wins and put up 23.4 points per game. 

Headlining the special mention list was Eastern’s Tucker Leist, Eastern Meigs’ Colton Lloyd and Southeastern’s Lane Williams

Making honorable mention was Belpre’s Malik Currie, Eastern Meigs’ Gavin Murphy, Waterford’s Cole Sparling-Ponchak, Paint Valley’s Carson Free, Huntington’s Frankie Hirsch, Lynchburg-Clay’s Denver Clinton, Peebles’ Carson Reed, North Adams’ Jayce Rothwell, Valley’s Chase Davis, West’s Will Kegley and Eastern’s Boston Webb

Minford’s Eli Roberts is a first-team All-Ohioan in Division VII.

South Webster’s Eli Roberts highlights the first-team list in Division VII. The 6-foot-8 senior averaged 22.5 points and seven rebounds per night, leading the Jeeps to back-to-back district titles and their first regional title since 2006. 

Green’s Jon Knapp was tabbed with second-team honors, leading the Bobcats to 12 wins with 21 points per game, including his 1,000th career point. 

Special mention honors were earned by Southern’s Andre Chandler and Fairfield’s Brody Smith, while Notre Dame’s Myles Phillips and Landon Barbarits, Western’s Drew Haggy and Kam Janes, Ironton St. Joe’s Wesley Neal, South Gallia’s Carson Stowers, Fairfield’s Logan McIntosh, Whiteoak’s Zander Roades, Manchester’s Parker Hayslip, New Boston’s Wyatt McNeil and South Webster’s Dylan Shupert earned honorable mention.
