Unioto’s Milee Smith earns second SVC POY award, all-league teams released

The SVC has released its all-league girls basketball teams.

CHILLICOTHE — Twice as nice. 

After leading her team to a third consecutive Gold Ball season, Unioto’s Milee Smith has been named the Scioto Valley Conference’s Player of the Year for the second straight season.

The University of Dayton commit has played as advertised all season long, averaging 25.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.6 steals per night.

Those numbers have helped the Shermans push their SVC win streak to 42 games.

Unioto coach Jeff Miller has been named the league’s Coach of the Year after helping his Shermans navigate an 18-4 season.

Joining Smith with first-team all-conference honors is her teammate Mya Hamilton, as well as Adena’s Marly Halcomb, Huntington’s Allie Baker and Piketon’s Laila Kelley.

Hamilton showcased her talents by putting up 19.2 points each night, alongside 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals, while collecting her 1,000th career point.

Halcomb guided the Warriors to 16 wins while leading the team with 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds, Baker led the Huntsmen to a 17-5 mark while scoring 21.5 points alongside 3.8 steals, including scoring her 1,000th career point, and Kelley lifted the Redstreaks to 13 wins, scoring 12.2 points per night and dishing out 3.1 assists. 

Southeastern junior Reese Ruckel, Westfall junior Adrian Moehl, Adena senior Corinne Day, Piketon sophomore Jaylin Forbes and Unioto junior Maggie Holbert make up the five second-team all-SVC selections.

Earning third-team all-league honors are Southeastern’s Rowen Ruckel, Zane Trace’s Emma Houston, Westfall’s Makenzie Cook, Huntington’s Brailee Hauswirth and Paint Valley’s Karris Dye.

Honorable mention selections are as follows: Adena’s Kamryn Sowers and Jacey Smith, Huntington’s Tori Smith and Leah McCloskey, Paint Valley’s Sophia Stauffer and Delaney Mannion, Piketon’s Danika Ritchie and Abrial Johnson, Southeastern’s Gracie Brown and Ally Fisher, Unioto’s Keyairah Beard and Charlotte Dennis, Westfall’s Aubrey Clark and Isabella Patete, and Zane Trace’s Aubree Thomas and Carlie Clark.
