COAL GROVE — After leading her team to a share of the conference championship and its first-ever district crown, Coal Grove’s Abbie Deeds has been selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.
Deeds was magnificent throughout the year.
She was 16-6 in the circle alongside a 2.09 ERA. She struck out 253 hitters while opponents hit just .168 against her. She also contributed at the plate, batting .341 with three long balls, 15 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
Deeds was joined on the OVC’s first-team list by teammates Rylee Black, Mia Haynes, Izzy Kitts and Braelie Hitchcock. The Hornets’ head coach, Aaron Rice, was named the co-OVC Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 17-8 mark.
Ironton’s Jim Dyer also earned co-Coach of the Year honors as his Tigers finished 12-2 in OVC action. They are represented on the first-team list by Khamil Martin, Braylin Wallace, Aubrey Ferguson and Graycie Brammer.
Rounding out the OVC’s first-team list is Fairland’s Kaylee Salyer, Makena Black and Ally Shepherd, Rock Hill’s Karlee Gillispie and Nevaeh Hackworth, Portsmouth’s Olivia Dickerson and Emily Cheatham, Chesapeake’s Riley Isaacs and Hannah Webb, Gallia Academy’s Ava Angel and South Point’s Aydson Copley.
Honorable mention honorees are Coal Grove’s Kendall Taylor and Shay Collins, Ironton’s Katie Williams and Katelyn Moore, Fairland’s Katie Dehart and Jordan Spencer, Rock Hill’s Charlee Long and Bridgette Stapleton, Portsmouth’s Katie Ankrom and Bailey Waughtel, Chesapeake’s McKenna Webb and Addison Maynard, Gallia Academy’s Reagan Skidmore and Emma Hammons, and South Point’s Maddy Evans and Alli Stidham.
