PEEBLES — The District 14 Coaches Association released its all-district girls basketball teams with a trio of familiar names headlining the list.
In Division I/II, Unioto’s Milee Smith was tabbed as the Player of the Year while Peebles’ Payton Johnson and Green’s Abbie Knapp earned that honor in Divisions III and IV, respectively.
Smith, who was also the SVC Player of the Year, has led her Shermans to an overall 20-3 mark thus far, including a Gold Ball and a sectional championship.
Johnson has guided the Indians to 19 wins and a sectional title, averaging 22.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per night.
Knapp has made herself a household name in a short amount of time, having numerous 20 and 30-plus point games, while adding a 50-point outing to her name as well.
Joining Smith with first-team honors in Divisions I/II was teammate Mya Hamilton, McClain’s Paisley Pryor, Logan Elm’s Kiannah Ingram and Circleville’s Addison Edgington.
On the second-team list was Waverly’s Paige O’Bryant and Caris Risner, Circleville’ Maddie Blakeman, Hillsboro’s Blake Herdman, Miami Trace’s Jessee Stewart, McClain’s Lily Barnes and Unioto’s Amaris Betts.
Earning honorable mention honors were Miami Trace’s Gracie Lovett, Unioto’s Amelia Uhrig, Logan Elm’s Kimberly Petty, Circleville’s Gabby McConnell, Waverly’s Sara Pecorari, McClain’s Kaitlyn Jett, Chillicothe’s Avery Cox, Hillsboro’s Peighton Bledsoe and Washington’s Maggie Wall.
Circleville coach Brian Bigam has been named the Division II District 14 Coach of the Year.
Alongside Johnson in Division III on the first-team list is Portsmouth’s Sienna Allen and Daysha Reid, West’s Emma Sayre and Adena’s Emma Garrison.
Second-team honors went to Lynchburg-Clay’s Jade Massey and Addison West, North Adams’ Kenlie Jones, South Webster’s Skylar Zimmerman and Huntington’s Allie Baker.
Third-team selections were Southeastern’s Gabby Pernell, Lynchburg-Clay’s Macy Etienne, West’s Macey Whisman, Minford’s Lindsee Williams, North Adams’ Katelynn Boerger and Fairfield’s Faith Donley.
The honorable mention list was highlighted by Adena’s Marly Holcomb, Eastern Brown’s Tabby Schumacher, Fairfield Kelsey Clark, Huntington’s Emma Hinshaw, Lynchburg-Clay’s Ella Barry, Minford’s Lexi Conkel, North Adams’ Harlee Brand, Northwest’s Claire Newman, Peebles’ Caydence Carroll, Piketon’s Laila Kelly, Portsmouth’s Hayven Carter, West’s Emily Moore, Southeastern’s Gracie Brown, South Webster’s Bella Claxon, Wheelersburg’s Mia Vastine, Zane Trace’s Carlie Clark and West Union’s Ashlah Staten.
Adena coach Andrew Day was named Division III District 14 Coach of the Year.
In Division IV, Knapp was joined on the first-team list by Valley’s Lexie Morrow, Notre Dame’s Gracie Ashley, Whiteoak’s Jaylie Parr and New Boston’s Cassie Williams.
The second-team honorees are Notre Dame’s Ella Kirby and Katie Strickland, Paint Valley’s Karris Dye, Clay’s Emma Emnett, Eastern’s Laiken Gullett and Manchester’s Raegan Wikoff.
Honorable Mention accolades were earned by the following players: Whiteoak’s Lydia Carr, Notre Dame’s Annabelle Ball, Clay’s Sophia Craf, Eastern’s Cylie Weaver, New Boston’s Brooklyn Boyer, Green’s Matti Hayslip, Valley’s Ella Thompson, Manchester’s Madison Dunn, Paint Valley’s Sophia Stauffer and Western’s Kerrigan Marhoover.
Notre Dame coach JD McKenzie was named the Division IV District 14 Coach of the Year.
