Arguably, the Southern Ohio Conference II was the toughest league on the soccer pitch this season. And not only did Wheelersburg have the best team, it also had the best player.
With 52 goals and 16 assists for the 18-win Pirates, Max Hagans has been named the SOC II Player of the Year while helping his teammates to SOC II, sectional and district titles this season.
His teammate Connor Estep is the co-Defensive Player of the Year alongside Northwest’s Logan Shepherd. Wheelersburg’s Jon Estep was named the Coach of the Year.
Joining Hagans on the first-team list are teammates Nick Sylvia, Breyden Byrd, Ethan Hochstetler, Miller Mckenzie, Brody Wilburn and Clark Weller, as well as Minford’s Myles Montgomery, Ethan Cordle, Gavin Downey, Grant Wheeler and Sam Tieman, South Webster’s Hunter Barnard, Benaiah Andrews, Dylan Shupert and Carson Corriell, Northwest’s Caleb Lewis and Jay Jenkins, West’s Carter Essman and Colton Journey, and Waverly’s Landyn Russell.
The second-team list is comprised of Wheelersburg’s Cooper Heimbach, Carter Porter and Kayson Whitt, Minford’s Alex Reeder, Max Lauder and Ashton Reeder, South Webster’s Kady Mantle and Tyler Sommer, Northwest’s Evan Mitchell and Levi Bruch, Waverly’s Nathan Lehew and Carson Moore, and West’s Michael Grobowski.
In the SOC I, Ironton’s St. Joe’s Brady Medinger was tabbed as the co-Player of the Year, sharing the honor with New Boston’s Rhys Bratchett.
Medinger was a driving force behind the Flyers’ SOC I championship, leading them to 14 wins and a sectional title with 21 goals and a team-high 19 assists. Bratchett led the Tigers with 14 goals and seven assists on the season.
The Flyers’ Bryson Burcham was named the SOC I’s Defensive Player of the Year, while ISJ’s Mike Balstera is the Coach of the Year.
Joining Medinger and Burcham on first-team are teammates Landon Rowe, Evan Balstera, Wesley Neal, Jack Whaley, Eli Ford and Ian Whaley, as well as Valley’s Braxton Dillow, Jaekyn Ridout, Christian Copen, Dalton Serry and Chase Powell, Western’s Kam Janes, Cole Grooms, Tyler Kerns and Elijah McQuay, and New Boston’s Colton Maynard, Hunter Easter and Josiah Smith.
Earning second-team honors are Ironton St. Joe’s Blake Medinger, Carson Lyons and Eric Dutey, Valley’s Aidan Gray, Nick Queen and Chase Davis, Western’s Brody Dennsion and Logan Thompson, and New Boston’s Kellen Gray and Julian Brady.
