CHILLICOTHE — A legendary coach is stepping down from her position at Southeastern High School.
Veteran volleyball coach Lori Koker has decided to resign from her post after leading the Panthers to a district championship game last fall.
Koker has spent the past three seasons at Southeastern, where the program has went 41-30 overall. Last season was the best under the heralded head coach as the Panthers went 16-9 while reaching a Division III district final before a loss to Wheelersburg ended their season.
This past year, Koker was diagnosed with cancer. However, she didn’t let that stop her from doing what she loved. With her husband, Allen, by her side on the Panthers’ bench, her team rallied around her and lifted her up.
Now, as she finishes the process of beating that cancer, she’ll need all the energy she has left to do so.
“Southeastern is a fantastic place. The support there is amazing,” Koker said. “We loved our time there, the kids are hard-working, smart and want to please. We wish them the best. I’m doing great, but I just can’t give the energy that’s needed to be a head coach. I’m finishing treatments and want to start a new journey in my life.”
As she enters a break from coaching, Koker’s career record now stands at 406-179.
