CHILLICOTHE — One of the area’s undeniably best basketball talents has found a collegiate home.

Huntington senior Allison Basye, as many expected, committed to a Division I school on Monday, via Twitter, choosing Northern Kentucky University as her next home.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to continue to do what I love at the next level,” Basye wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank my family, friends, and all the coaches and trainers I’ve had over the years that have shaped me into the player and person I am today. I wouldn’t be anywhere without them.”

Basye is a two-time defending SVC Player of the Year. She averaged 23.9 points per game alongside 11 rebounds last winter.

She added all-district and all-state honors to her junior accolades as well.

She chose NKU over a slew of schools on her recruiting trail.

“Thanks to all the schools who recruited me through this process,” Basye wrote. “Most importantly, I would like to thank the entire NKU coaching staff for seeing something and believing in a 13-year-old girl with just a passion and drive for the game that is endless. They were the first [coaches] to give me a chance and have been there the entire way.”

SOSA will have a follow-up story in Basye’s commitment this week.
