SOSA Staff Report
CHILLICOTHE — When she knocked in a game-winning goal last Saturday, Unioto’s Emily Hanes joined elite company.
Hanes lifted the Shermans to a 1-0 overtime victory over Warren in a Division II district final with a goal around the 11-minute mark in OT.
That golden goal made her the third Sherman in history to score a game-winning goal in tournament action — McKayla Thompson and Jenny Campbell.
For that reason, Hanes has been named SOSA’s Athlete of the Week.
Out of 8,406 public votes, Hanes accounted for 4,795 or 57.04 percent of the total. Adena’s Camryn Carroll finished second in the voting with 3,052, Waverly’s Will Futhey was third with a count of 320, and Zane Trace’s Gracey McCullough was fourth at 239.
Hanes received two of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.
For her efforts, Hanes will receive a free t-shirt, thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing, and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
