CHILLICOTHE — The next time Chillicothe’s girls hoops team takes the court, it’ll be doing so with an experienced head coach roaming the bench.
On Monday, the school’s athletic office sent out a press release that announced the hire and board approval of Anthony Gordon — who will replace Jeremy Beverly at the program’s helm after three seasons.
“I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to lead the Lady Cavaliers,” Gordon said. “I’ve been very fortunate to learn from some great coaches in my career that have prepared me for this role. I look forward to getting started and building a competitive program that our community can be proud of and get behind.”
Gordon’s experience on the court speaks for itself.
He spent the 2019-20 season at Kentucky Christian University, where he served as the school’s Director of Player Development. Before that, he endured a four-year stint at Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky. as a varsity assistant coach, as well as a two-year stint at Greenup County (Ky.) High School, as the program’s head coach.
Last year, the Cavaliers finished 7-14 overall with a 5-4 mark in the Frontier Athletic Conference. They ended their season with a 71-39 loss to Vinton County.
Gordon’s Chillicothe coaching debut is slated for Nov. 20 when the Cavaliers host Lancaster to begin the 2020-21 season.
