COLUMBUS — His senior football season may be over, but Payton Shoemaker isn’t finished collecting honors just yet.

When the OHSAA released its Division IV All-Ohio football team on Monday, Waverly’s standout running back collected his final, and most outstanding, accolade this year as he garnered first-team all-state honors.

Shoemaker ended his final season as a Tiger by setting new school records with 2,328 rushing yards and 32 touchdown while leading the Tigers to a 9-3 overall record and the team’s fourth straight playoff appearance.

He was also named Southern Ohio Conference and District Player of the Year.

Joining Shoemaker with first-team All-Ohio honors in Divison IV is teammate Grayson Diener, the Tigers’ kicker. The team’s leading receiver Will Futhey, is a third-team all-state selection.

Area players that earned Special Mention All-Ohio honors in Division IV included Washington’s Eli Lynch, Collier Brown, Chase Sluder and Garitt Leisure, Waverly’s Haydn’ Shanks, Andrew Welch and Zeke Brown, and Hillsboro’s Mark Gallimore and Draven Stodgel.
