CHILLICOTHE — After leading Unioto’s football program to 34 wins and three playoff appearances over the past five years, head coach Jeff Metzler has resigned from his post.
This past season, Unioto was 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the Scioto Valley Conference, good enough for a fourth place finish inside the league.
Under Metzler, Unioto never had a losing record. He announced his resignation.
“What an honor it has been for me these past five years to lead the Unioto football team as head coach,” Metzler said. “My entire coaching experience at Unioto has been a rewarding experience for me and I hope it has been as well for our players and assistant coaches. I hope I have impacted their lives because my players and assistant coaches have impacted mine. I appreciate the support of the administration, teaching staff, support staff, and maintenance staff. Together we’ve built a program to be proud of and I have no doubt the legacy will continue into the future.”

In short, a lot of time has been spent on the gridiron.
“Coaching is a full-time job,” Metzler said. “I have been coaching for 31 years and feel it’s time to hand the reins to the next generation of coaches. I am looking forward to spending more time with family and friends. In closing I would like to thank the Unioto community for the support of not only me, but of our program. I hope they will continue their support in the future. Go Tanks.”
