BECKLEY — Next stop: the Prospect League playoffs.
After a less than sizzling start to the season, the Chillicothe Paints (37-19) officially punched their tickets to the playoffs on Friday with a 10-5 victory over the West Virginia Miners (18-38).
The Paints mustered only five hits on the evening, but it was the seventh inning where the game was blown out of reach.
Already leading 3-2, the Paints scored six runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Cole Andrews (Miami University) and an RBI single from Joe Laudont (Grand Valley State University), taking a 9-2 lead before slamming the door shut.
Kyle Bischoff (University of Toledo) earned the victory in two innings of relief, allowing four hits and an earned run while striking out a pair of batters.
Cody Orr (Tiffin University) finished with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Paints. Andrews added two RBIs while Chris Eisel (Indiana University of PA) had an RBI.
The Paints are back in action tomorrow at West Virginia. With four games remaining in the regular season, the Paints are tied with the Danville Dans atop the Prospect League’s East Division.
