WAVERLY — After a week in which he made tattooing the baseball a habit, Portsmouth Post 23’s Bryce Ponn has been named the Southern Ohio Sports Authority “Athlete of the Week.”
Ponn, who led his team to three wins in five tries this past week, went 8-for-16 at the plate with a double, two triples, seven runs scored and four RBIs.
This past weekend alone, Ponn was 5-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep of Hillsboro 129.
All summer long, those are the types of crooked numbers Ponn has been producing with the bat in his hand. His efforts have helped Portsmouth 23 secure a No. 2 seed in next week’s Ohio Region V Tournament, where the group awaits the winner of Chillicothe 757 and Harrison 199 in the quarterfinals of the winner’s bracket.
For his efforts this past week, Ponn will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
NOTE: The Athlete of the Week polls will return to the site the week of Aug. 26 … after the first full week of fall sports.
