Waverly 142 drops a pair to Findlay, Springfield
HILLSBORO — Waverly Post 142 dropped two games Saturday, coming at the hands of opponents from Findlay and Springfield in the Hillsboro Wood Bat Tournament.
In their first game of the day, despite a great pitching performance from Derek Eblin, the Shockers (3-4) fell to Findlay Post 3 by a 4-1 final.
At the plate, Parker Clemmons was 1-for-2 with a double and a run while Ian Gillen finished 2-for-4.
Eblin was the tough-luck loser, throwing 5 ⅓ innings of two-hit baseball. He didn’t allow an earned run and struck out a pair.
“Derek pitched a nice game for us,” Waverly 142 coach Jonathan Teeters said. “We left too many guys on base and didn’t make the routine plays needed to achieve victory.”
The Shockers fell to Springfield in the second game by an 11-3 count, a game where the team only mustered four hits — coming from Kannon Pack, Tucker Tackett, Connor Galloway and Cade McNeil. In that contest, Tanner Cunningham took the loss in 2 ⅔ innings of work. He allowed an earned run on four hits while striking out three.
Waverly 142 will try and get back in the win column Sunday afternoon, facing Chillicothe Post 757’s junior team.
