COLUMBUS — Paige Emnett has been on top of the discus results all year long. Friday, even while competing against the highest level of competition possible, was no different.
Wheelersburg’s senior thrower won the Division III discus event with a heave of 139-feet, three inches better than her second place competitor, at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
In her six attempts, Emnett fouled three times, posted marks of 121-11 and 130-10, and posted her state-winning throw with her fifth attempt of the afternoon.
Liberty-Benton’s Chloe Miller took second place, throwing 138-7 while Arcadia’s Samantha Watkins finished in third with a distance of 132-8.
Last season, Emnett finished in 16th place with a heave of 105-6. She’ll look for a second state championship, competing in the shot put momentarily.
Emnett added a second place finish in the Division III shot put to her resume as well, earning that spot with a throw of 43-2.5. The state’s winner, Covington’s Lauren Christian won the title with a heave of 44-7.25.
Southern Ohio Sports Authority will have continuous updates from the OHSAA Track and Field State Championships.
