SOSA Staff Report
FRANKLIN FURNACE — After a white-hot week at the plate, Green leadoff hitter and pitcher Ava Jenkins has been voted as the Southern Ohio Sports Authority “Athlete of the Week.”
Jenkins’ week featured the sophomore hitting 15-for-20 in five games, highlighted by a 5-for-6 day in a 28-3 win over Latham Western. That average was highlighted by a home run, eight doubles, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Notre Dame’s Isabel Cassidy won the public poll, earning 1,716 votes out of 2,730 in total — or 62.9 percent. Jenkins finished second with 677 votes but earned all four votes from the guys at SOSA to take home the AOW honor.
Adena’s Jarrett Garrison was third in the voting with 130 votes, Minford’s Ethan Lauder took fourth at 124, Westfall’s Marcy Dudgeon was fifth with 55, and Clay’s Dakota Dodds finished sixth with 28.
For her efforts, Jenkins will receive a free duffel bag from MOJO-USA, a free t-shirt thanks to Mile Tree Screen Printing and a free Wendy’s combo meal via Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
